The Foundation Stage Curriculum

Children in the Nursery and Reception Classes follow the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage. This is organised into 6 areas of learning. These are:-
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
- Communication, Language and Literacy.
- Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy.
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
- Physical Development.
- Creative Development
These six areas of learning are very ‘hands on’. The children’s learning is carefully planned and assessed through enjoyable and interesting activities.
Importance is placed on settling in and becoming familiar and confident with school routines in the early weeks. In our experience happy children make successful learners.
Children move from Reception Foundation Stage to Year 1, so called because it is the first year of the National Curriculum. They leave primary in year 6 but the National Curriculum continues throughout their school years.
Moor Park, like all other state schools, follows the National Curriculum. The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organise in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich the experience of the children.
